At Give Back Team, we’ve always believed in the power of community support, but we never imagined our local efforts would capture national attention.
— Ginger Walker

In a humbling full-circle moment, Ginger Walker and Sandra Grimes received an email from ABC News in New York requesting to feature Operation Thanksgiving, our community initiative to support federal workers and military families affected by the government shutdown. The story subsequently appeared on both ABC News and Good Morning America, shining a national spotlight on Stafford and Fredericksburg's spirit of generosity.

Operation Thanksgiving began as a simple mission: ensure that federal employees, TSA agents, military personnel, teachers, and first responders facing financial strain from the government shutdown could enjoy Thanksgiving with their families. What started as a local effort grew into a powerful demonstration of neighbor helping neighbor.

"There are so many amazing stories of communities supporting each other," notes Sandra Grimes. "Our goal was always to create a ripple effect of kindness. Seeing that ripple extend beyond Stafford and Fredericksburg has been the greatest reward."

By the Numbers: Community Impact

The results of Operation Thanksgiving speak volumes:

  • 135 families received complete Thanksgiving meal kits

  • Over 540 people were fed through the initiative

  • Countless volunteers and sponsors came together to make it possible

As reported by ABC News: "A pair of friends in Virginia worked together to keep food on the table for those in need this Thanksgiving... Grimes and Walker worked hand in hand to feed 135 families and more than 540 people during a Thanksgiving meal drive on Saturday."
